Why Deluded Football Parents Are Actually Setting Their Kids Up for Success

The 11% delusion that's building tomorrow's leaders, not just footballers

Hey everyone,

Some research dropped this year:

11.4% of parents believe their child will play professional sports.

Let's be honest about the odds.

Only 0.012% of kids playing youth football make it to the Premier League. That’s 180 players out of 1.5 million young players. 1 in 8000. Even in academies, less than 0.5% go pro.

So yeah, you might be one of the deluded ones. (Or maybe quite fancy it!)

Either way, you know what… that's completely fine.

Because while you're chasing that dream, you're actually setting your kid up for something bigger. Every training session, every drill in the garden, every match - they're building skills that guarantee success in life, not just sport:

  • 94% of women in C-suite positions played sports

  • Former student-athletes earn more and hold higher-status careers

  • High school athletes show significantly higher leadership capabilities

  • Sports participants are more likely to volunteer and give back

Your "delusion" is getting your kid active, teaching them to strive, giving them a vision to chase. That's not delusion - that's top tier parenting.

Dreams, delusions - call them what you want.

Keep at it - you’re doing a great job!!

Some of the best from our timelines this week:

💪 Learn to stay strong like this Ajax youth player.

🔼 Simple cone routines like this one are under-rated. We are fans of the humble cone.

⚡️ Use this quick feet routine to maintain close control under pressure.

↔️ Learn to receive the ball and feint to wrong-foot opponents like this.

🇪🇸 La Liga dropping fun team games is one of our favourite things. Can players control the ball and keep it in the box.
